Overview
Disodium cocoyl glutamate is an anionic surfactant. Derived from the amino acid, L-glutamic acid, this ingredient is considered a powerful cleansing agent.
Each molecule of disodium cocoyl glutamate has both a water-loving section and an oil-loving section. Having such opposing features on the same molecule is what makes this ingredient a cleansing agent, as the oil-loving side is able to surround the dirt and oil matter on the skin and the water-loving side allows the dirt and oil to then be washed away with water.
This phenomenon makes disodium cocoyl glutamate an excellent addition to products like face washes and hand soaps.
