Cyclotetrasiloxane is a type of silicone that is also known as D4 fluid. This ingredient has a very low viscosity and is volatile, meaning it evaporates quickly. It is desirable for its rich sensory profile, which includes a smooth, silky feel with a light cushion effect.
This non-oily liquid is also useful for reducing tack in otherwise oily formulas. In addition to being a great emollient, cyclotetrasiloxane can also serve as a solvent for dissolving and introducing other silicones into a product.
