Crambe abyssinica seed oil is a fatty oil expressed from the seeds of Crambe, a rapeseed-related oil plant. The oil is inedible, but has many other technical uses (e.g., biofuel, plastic, lubricants and other).
The main constituent of the oil is a rare, monounsaturated fatty acid called erucic acid (up to 65%), as well as oleic acid (up to 25%), and linoleic acid (up to 15%).
It acts similar to canola or rapeseed oil when used in skincare products: as an occlusive moisturizer and emollient to help prevent water loss from the skin.
