Overview

Coffea arabica seed oil is a fatty, emollient oil extracted from green coffee beans (before they are roasted). The oil is green in color, which is caused by the content of chlorophyll in the unroasted coffee beans.

The main fatty acid is linoleic acid (up to 45%), followed by palmitic acid (up to 38%). Coffee seed oil is special because of its content of unique and rare diterpene esters – cafestol and kahweol, which are not found anywhere else. They have antioxidant and anticarcinogenic properties, but, when taken orally, have unfavorable effects on liver enzymes and blood lipid levels.

That’s why the coffee seed oil is used almost exclusively in skincare products – as a good occlusive moisturizing and emollient oil with antioxidant properties. Depending on the extraction method, the oil may or may not contain caffeine.
