Overview

Coffee arabica seed extract is an extract obtained from coffee beans. Yes, the same coffee beans that you drink in your morning coffee. The extract is used for its powerful antioxidant and anti-aging properties in skincare products, as well as for its all-too-familiar coffee scent.

Coffee extracts, depending on the type of coffee seeds and the extraction process, are extremely rich in antioxidant compounds (mainly organic and phenolic acids) and contain significant amounts of emollient fatty oil and proteins. They also (unsurprisingly) contain caffeine.

The combination of phenolic acids and caffeine has been proven to improve collagen and elastin production in the skin. There has even been a small clinical study that tested the anti-aging effects of coffee berry extract on 30 volunteers, which had very promising results.

The most famous use of caffeine on the skin is to combat cellulite. This, however, has not been proven by a scientific study.
