Overview

Coco-betaine is an amphoteric surfactant, which is a type of cleansing ingredient that supports primary cleansers by making them milder, increasing the foaming behavior, and controlling the viscosity.

This ingredient is frequently paired with anionic surfactants, or negatively charged cleansing agents, such as sodium laureth sulfate or milder alternatives like sulfonates. Sometimes anionic surfactants are too harsh on skin when used on their own, so coco-betaine and other amphoteric surfactants are perfect for toning down the intensity of the cleansing products.

At the same time, coco-betaine creates stable long-lasting foaming behavior and can thicken cleansing products depending on the levels used.
