Overview

Coccinia indica fruit extract is an antioxidant and soothing extract from the fruits of ivy gourd, a species of cucumber-like gourds that grow bright red, edible fruits. The fruits are used in the local cuisine of India, as well as in traditional medicine to treat skin wounds and inflammation.

It has also been shown that the extract may have some anti-allergy properties. The fruits mainly contain a thick mucilage that forms a protective, soothing layer on the skin’s surface.

The plant pigments that give it the red color are carotenoids, which also have antioxidant effects.
