Overview

Cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine presents as a pale yellow liquid and is classified as an amphoteric surfactant.

Amphoteric surfactants are used in conjunction with anionic surfactants to aid in cleansing functions. Cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine serves as a viscosity controlling agent, in that it increases the viscosity of skin cleansing products.

It also has a strong foaming profile, where it produces a good amount of flash foam with excellent foam stability.

Finally, cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine can also serve as an antistatic agent, in which it draws water to itself and thereby reduces the buildup of static electricity.
