Citrus paradisi fruit extract is an extract obtained from the peels of grapefruits (Citrus paradisi). The peels of all citrus fruits contain mainly essential oil, which, in the case of grapefruit, contains mainly limonene, a compound responsible for the citrus smell. In grapefruit, limonene may represent up to 95% of the essential oil.
Grapefruit peels also contain various organic acids and flavonoids (which have antioxidant activities), as well as carotenoids (which are responsible for the yellow, orange, and red colors of the peels).
Some people might be sensitive to citrus extracts, especially when combined with sun exposure.
