Overview

Citrus aurantium dulcis callus culture extract is a unique ingredient with a complicated method of production, as well as controversial anti-aging claims. So let’s break it down.

Citrus aurantium dulcis is a species of sweet orange, cultivated for its juicy sweet fruits. It is possible to take the stem cells from the orange tree and grow them in the lab into a so-called callus culture, which looks more or less like green goo. This disordered bunch of plant cells, however, can contain the same active compounds as the source plant.

The manufacturer claims that this ingredient can improve skin tissue structure, increase collagen synthesis, and improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

We were not able to find the referenced clinical studies, and so we cannot be sure.

It is an odorless extract, and should therefore be safe for those sensitive to citrus fruits and citrus essential oils.
