Chondrus crispus extract is an extract from the species of red marine algae called Irish moss or carrageen moss. It is edible and widely used to produce carrageenan, an algal polysaccharide with humectant moisturizing, soothing, and film-forming properties.
The red algae also contains various beneficial antioxidant compounds and is rich in sulfur, which has antimicrobial properties.
