Overview

Erythraea centaurium extract is a bitter extract obtained from the European centaury, Centaurium erythraea. The bioactive compounds from centaury have very good antioxidant properties and, in skincare products, may be able to help alleviate the effects of oxidative damage.

Centaury is traditionally used to treat gastrointestinal issues and to boost the appetite – which is because of the presence of very bitter compounds called secoiridoids and xanthones.
