Overview

Cardiospermum halicacabum is a climbing plant native to the tropical and subtropical areas of the world. Also called balloon plant or “love in a puff”, it commonly grows as a weed in unkept areas like roadsides.

The leaves are used externally in traditional medicine to reduce swelling and itching. Phytochemical screening revealed that the Cardiospermum halicacabum extract contains flavonoids, phytosterols, and phenolic compounds, which have anti-inflammatory effects.
