Caprooyl Phytosphingosine

A synthetic emollient that is similar to skin-identical ceramides. It helps to replenish the building blocks of the skin’s lipid barrier and helps with the formation and stability of emulsions.

Caprooyl Phytosphingosine

Overview

Caprooyl phytosphingosine is a molecule consisting of two parts: caproic acid (a very short fatty acid) and phytosphingosine (an amino alcohol that is the base of skin-natural ceramides).

It serves as an emollient ingredient and helps to replenish the building blocks of ceramides in the skin’s lipid barrier.

It is also used as a technical ingredient for the formation and stabilization of nanoemulsions or liposomes. This helps the other beneficial ingredients in the skincare product better absorb into the skin.
