Camellia sinensis extract is an antioxidant, astringent, and soothing extract obtained from green tea. It is a favorite of skincare product manufacturers due to its various beneficial effects.
Camellia sinensis extract, when applied to the skin, affects each skin layer differently. In the top layer, it works mostly as an antioxidant and astringent, reducing the abnormal production of sebum in the skin. In deeper layers, the tea extract inhibits the enzymes responsible for the destruction of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid in the skin, thereby delaying the signs of aging.
It reduces the redness of sunburned skin and helps with the healing process. Some preliminary reports suggest that it may also be able to treat pigmentation issues.
