Overview

This is an antioxidant and astringent extract obtained from common heather, Calluna vulgaris. Heather is a famous plant that grows in moorlands all around the Northern hemisphere. It can cover large areas of mountainous land, most iconically in the Scottish Highlands, where it can turn whole hills purple during bloom.

The flavonoids and tannins from heather leaves and flowers have antioxidant and astringent properties. Some research articles are observing the ability of Calluna vulgaris extract to ameliorate UV-induced oxidative stress.
