C12-15 alkyl benzoate is a synthetic emollient ester.
This ingredient works to improve the appearance of the skin by filling in the microcracks at the surface of the skin, which makes the skin appear softer and smoother. It imparts a lightweight, velvety feel.
This thin, colorless liquid also works well as a solvent. It is excellent for dispersing insoluble minerals, such as zinc oxide for sunscreen or iron oxides for adding pigment.
C12-15 alkyl benzoate is also useful for incorporating ingredients that would otherwise be incompatible with the system, such as highly nonpolar squalane or alkyl dimethicones.
