Blue 1 (CI 42090)

FD&C Blue #1 is a triarylmethane dye that is commonly known as Brilliant Blue FCF. This ingredient is synthetic and is one of the oldest approved color additives.

It is frequently used to add vivid color to skincare products, including lotions, creams, hair care products, and color cosmetics. FD&C Blue #1 can also be found in foods, medications, and dietary supplements, as it is considered non-toxic and safe for use.

This ingredient presents as a blue powder, and since it is considered a dye – as opposed to a pigment – it is will dissolve in water and glycerin.
