Overview
Biosaccharide gum-1 is a type of polysaccharide that has been derived through the fermentation of carbohydrates. The main function of this ingredient is its ability to moisturize, and it does so through being a humectant.
A humectant is a type of moisturizing ingredient that draws water to the outer layers of skin from deeper layers and even from out of the environment when the water content of the air is high enough.
Biosaccharide gum-1 also acts to soothe dry and damaged skin. The humectant ability of this ingredient is not to be confused with moisturizing occlusives, which lock water into the skin, rather than drawing it to the skin.
