Beta vulgaris root extract is an extract derived from red beet root. Red beet is a vegetable that is common in many cuisines around the world.
Its intense purple-red color is due to the presence of special plant pigments called betalains. The particularly bright shade of red beet is caused by the compound betanin, also known as ‘beetroot red’. This compound is often isolated and used as a food coloring. As a bonus, betalain pigments also have some antioxidant activity.
