Overview

Anthemis nobilis flower oil is an essential oil distilled from the flowers of the Roman chamomile (Anthemis nobilis, or Chamaemelum nobile). It is used as a floral fragrance in skincare products. Its scent is different from that of the German chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla).

German chamomile and Roman chamomile, although closely related, are not the same. The essential oil of Roman chamomile contains less chamazulene (the blue, chamomile-scented compound) and is mainly constituted from esters of angelic and tiglic acid, which result in a fragrance that is sweet, crisp, fruity, and herbaceous.
