Amodimethicone

A synthetic, water-loving ingredient that reduces static buildup on skin.

Overview

Amodimethicone is a member of the silicone family that has been chemically functionalized with an amine group. The amine group allows this normally oil-loving compound to be compatible with water, and at low pH levels, it very strongly attracts water molecules to itself.

This chemistry is important because it causes amodimethicone to act as a powerful antistatic agent. When the water is drawn onto the molecule through hydrogen bonding, the buildup of static electricity is dissipated.

Therefore, upon applying products containing this ingredient, the user will experience fewer static shocks and uncomfortable static cling.
