Overview

Ammonium glycyrrhizate is an ammonium salt of glycyrrhizic acid, an anti-inflammatory and sweet-tasting compound isolated from licorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra).

Ammonium glycyrrhizate is sometimes used instead of the whole licorice root extract because glycyrrhizic acid is the main active ingredient – a steroid-like anti-inflammatory and skin-soothing ingredient, effective against eczema and other inflammatory skin conditions.

In some test-tube experiments, it was also shown that the ingredient may be able to help protect against UV light-induced skin aging.
