Overview
Alpha-glucan oligosaccharide is a type of prebiotic, which means it is made up of a substrate that keeps good skin flora healthy by inducing the growth and activity of beneficial microorganisms.
More specifically, the skin is a microbiome comprised of many different types of microorganisms, some of which are more helpful than others. This microscopic habitat, called the skin flora, is constantly working to protect your skin from harmful microorganisms and to maintain a healthy balance of the helpful ones.
Where alpha-glucan oligosaccharide comes in is to selectively weed out the bad microorganisms by providing a substrate, or food, for the healthy microorganisms to thrive on. When the skin flora is healthy, the overall condition of the skin will improve through strengthening the skin barrier.
